Réalité virtuelle
The Virtual Reality experience of Tintern Abbey has been produced by the Royal Commission in collaboration with Luminous. For this experience, Luminous carried out a 3D laser scan of the entire site in December 2017. The survey data was used in conjunction with a wide range of historic archive images, including nineteenth-century paintings and photographs, to virtually recreate the ruins as they would have appeared to visitors in the mid-nineteenth century. With the help of a VR headset or a Cardboard viewer for your smartphone, you can immerse yourself in the 3D surroundings of Tintern Abbey and, with the help of a day and night time-setting, explore the ruins in the footsteps of historic travellers from France and Germany. Books placed at points around the site allow you to learn more about the abbey, its inhabitants and its history.
